First twenty or so minutes pretty non descript, both sides seemed content to just hoof the ball into the strong wind. On 21 minutes, for whatever reason, Thalassitis was replaced by McNamara and suddenly we started passing the ball around and from the 30th minute the goals started to flow....In the end 6-0 flattered Gosport, it could have been a lot worse for them.....

Gosport humiliated in Hemel hammering

Boro' finally sank into relegation zone after suffering 6-0 thrashing by The Tudors on a dark day for everyone at the Aerial Direct Stadium.

Gosport face an uphill struggle to survive in the National League South after being hit for six by Hemel Hempstead Town.

A hat trick from on-loan Ebbsfleet striker Charlie Sheringham did the majority of the damage with support from Jordan Parkes, former Whitehawk striker Jake Robinson and Callum Daniel who added the other three.

The result, combined with Whitehawk's 2-0 win at Margate pushed Boro' into the bottom three for the first time - two points adrift of safety with Gosport not having scored in their last four and leaves with with the worst goal difference in the division having conceded 81 goals in 31 games.

Consequently, chairman Mark Hook and manager Alex Pike both faced awkward questions from the media afterwards while supporters were quick to turn to social media to air their frustrations.

Their next games away to Wealdstone and especially at bottom club Margate the following weekend are now absolutely crucial to their chances of survival.

Gosport made just the one change to the team that lost at Truro City in midweek, bringing in Pat Suraci for Charlie Wassmer as they sought to bring to an end a miserable run of league form against Hemel Hempstead - the last team they beat in the league back in the sunny days of October.

On a blustery afternoon and on a dry, dusty pitch, Hemel made an energetic start. Some clever play saw Connolly play a clever ball over the top to put Charlie Sheringham through. However, the on-loan striker and son of former Tottenham player Teddy, was unable to get on the end of it and the chance went astray.

A decent free kick from Bird from out wide on the left picked out Wright whose shot at the far post was deflected as Boro threatened for the first time. In a first half of few opportunities, Boro' continued to press.

Hemel made a surprise substitution as early as the 20th minute taking off a frustrated looking Thalassitis and replacing him with McNamara. Thalassitis showed his obvious displeasure at the substitution heading straight down the tunnel.

Boro' won a free kick on the edge of the area for an elbow on Lee by Saunders who was booked. Ben Wright’s set piece clipped the bar as the home side continued to look sharp and ask questions. Lee played in Wright who was onside and through but a moment’s hesitation allowed a shrewd challenge from Parkes to rob him of the ball.

Hemel had their first serious opportunity after half an hour when a defensive slip allowed Sheringham the room to score but saw his eventual effort deflected. From the corner he made no mistake with an angled header finding its way past Miles and in.

Minutes later it was two as Sheringham produced a perfectly flighted effort which left Miles helpless. All of Gosport’s hard work appeared to be coming undone. Robinson appeared to have made it three as Gosport completely collapsed defensively but his effort hit the post and came back out much to the home side’s relief.

The relief did not last long. Soon enough it was three with Parkes turning in McNamara's crosss at the far post - his effort deflecting off Aaron Dawson on its way. Suraci was substituted for Adam Brice as Alex Pike bolstered his defence.

Hemel piled on the agony as Robinson scored an easy fourth with a far post tap into an empty net just three minutes into the second half. A fifth goal duly arrived with Sheringham being picked out by Saunders and he clinically completed his hat trick.

Another change was made with Duran Martin replacing Carmichael. Hemel then made a double change just after Callum Daniel’s long range pile driver had made it six. Gosport’s frustrations boiled over as Tony Lee was booked and Alex Pike was spoken to by referee Venamore.

There was a steady stream of home supporters heading towards the exits as the clock counted down the final fifteen minutes and the game died. A final slap round the face came in the 84th minute as Tony Lee limped off leaving Gosport to finish the game with ten men having already used all their substitutes.
